Firstly please people BACKUP it’s only a 5 min operation and saves all your settings!

Custom Icons

Well lets face it while the look of Windows 7 is great it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and in some cases can really make your new awesome background well look kinda rubbish…

I use alot of custom icons on my desktop and I thought I ought to share them with you, pre converted to .ico!

->There are some alternatives included here too, i.e. I have used Mario as my games folder etc!

Fresh System

Everyone loves a new computer, though no one likes the task of putting your programs on it and more specificaly updating them.

I stand by the fact that people should create custom install dvds of windows 7 not that it is quie easy but for some it isn’t.

HOWEVER heres one nifty program to install the bare essentials as I see fit for a new system…

Please to bear in mind that this doesn’t incorpreate any of the tweaks I would do but rather the applications I like to install after a fresh copy of W7)

Red Alert 3 – Review

I’ve been a big fan of the command and conquer games, playing Red Alert 2 until recently where I decided to take the jump and get a rip of the latest Red Alert, Red Alert 3 (I will be looking at expansions, Kane’s Wrath and Tiberium Wars but I refuse to go to tiberium twilight as apparently it is a complete re-write and thus dissappointment).

So the file came in at an incredibley reasonable 2gb, all down to some incredible trickery by Skullptura who using his compression and ripping genius has somehow managed to turn the entire [english] part of the game to such small size with the WHOLE game still working.

One note to add to this howeveer is the online is still “enabled”, you basically get a few annoying messages about updating the install and a few brief black screens as it checks for updates, sure you can skip this if you firewall the game but personally I don’t want to. The only fix I can think of here is to point the game via proxy server in game setting to local host at 127.0.0.1 and see if that keeps the game local!

The Review

The game is actually rather unchanged, from the winning formula that is! There are new factions but obviously they all play quite similarly with the same core units however due to their relevant strengths etc the prime strategy between factions is incredibly different though I won’t destroy the surprise.

So why was this game not loved so much?

Well I think the real reason are the horrible graphics such as in the menu…

I get the idea of the art style but its nowhere near as nice as the menu in steam games the large detailed background picture and then the single menu (with appropriate sub menus) all in left alignment.

I did look to redesign it myself but could only find the cursor files and as a result my “modding” ended there! (launcher/menu re-texturise)

Breaking the First Rule

For a brief moment here I’m going to break the first rule…it goes without saying that this is something you don’t do lightly and only with just cause.

It’s a recomendation specificaly for the UK base out there.
